Caustics are the patterns light makes when glass or water bends it. I render them with my own raytracer. This series is an exploration of a field where my art meets my education and my work as an optics engineer.
The images look complex, but the scenes behind them are simple: a few mirrors with a relief surface, and sometimes a dichroic glass plate, together with a light source and a camera set to macro. Everything depends on the exact position of each part. Move a mirror slightly and you get a completely different image.
What comes out is a wide range of colour gradients, like flames or nebulae.
For now this is a study.
